A WWII veteran’s artwork in the library
Join us in honoring our veterans with a display in the Sandburg library from Nov. 11-Dec. 12. This exhibition features a collection of prints illustrated by George Withers, generously donated by his son, Brian Withers from New York. The display includes pieces accompanied by the late illustrator’s poignant story, highlighting his battle with PTSD after serving as a wartime artist during World War II. The artwork, often carrying political undertones and depictions of war preparation, sheds light on George’s personal and professional struggles. Although Brian had no prior connection to Sandburg, his dedication to preserving and sharing his father’s legacy is evident, aiming to inspire and support others through this powerful collection.
